A new clinopyroxene thermobarometer for mafic to intermediate magmatic systems

Abstract. Clinopyroxene-only thermobarometry is one of the most practical tools to reconstruct crystallization pressures and temperatures clinopyroxenes. Because it does not require any information coexisting silicate melt or other co-crystallized mineral phases, has been widely used elucidate physiochemical conditions crystallizing magmas. However, previously calibrated clinopyroxene-only thermobarometers display low accuracy when being applied mafic intermediate magmatic systems. Hence, in this study, we present new empirical nonlinear barometric thermometric models, which were formulated improve performance thermobarometry. Particularly, a total 559 experimental runs conducted pressure range 1 bar 12 kbar have for calibration validation formulation. The superiority our models with respect previous ones was confirmed by comparing their on 100 replications validation, standard error estimate (SEE) barometer thermometer are 1.66 36.6 ?C, respectively. Although fail reproduce entire test dataset, they still perform well clinopyroxenes crystallized from subalkaline basic magmas (i.e., basaltic, basalt-andesitic, dacitic magma systems).
